Les Trois Œuvres / The Three Steps

En alchimie, la quête spirituelle est portée par le travail de la matière physique. On appelle cela le Grand Œuvre.
Il y a trois étapes, respectivement appelées l' Œuvre au Noir, l'Œuvre au Blanc et l'Œuvre au Rouge :
Lors de l'Œuvre au Noir, l'alchimiste décompose la matière impure, il la chauffe pour l'ouvrir.
Ensuite, lors de l'Œuvre au Blanc, la matière ouverte laisse apparaitre quelque chose de plus subtile, de plus volatil.
En travaillant avec cette matière purifiée et en la recomposant, l'alchimiste obtiendra alors la Pierre Philosophale, la Lumière, lors de l'Œuvre au Rouge.

In alchemy, the spiritual quest is supported by the work on physical matter. It is called the Great Work.
There are three stages, called the Black Step, the White Step and the Red Step :
During the process of the Black Step, the alchemist decomposes the impure matter. S/he heats it in the fire to open it.
Then during the White Step, from the opened matter appears something more subtle, more light.
The alchemist has to work with this purified matter, s/he has to recomposed it. Then s/he will get the Philosopher's Stone, the Light, during the process of the Red Step.
